Ever since Angie posted all the photos from the Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2010 Line. I have loved this skirt. I needed to have one of my own. I had a pink tweed from long ago and thought it would work. I threw it in the washer and dryer, then I underlined it with some lavender batiste. I added 6 inches to the length. I lined the skirt with a green lining and added the fringe selvedge edge to the lining - but it's short enough that I'm the only one who knows it's there.
I started with the same ol' same ol' Kwik Sew skirt that I have made at least a million times. It works. It's fairly full and fits my hips well. I always feel fun, flirty and feminine when I wear skirts made from this pattern.
I finished the skirt last weekend and when I showed JB his comment was it looked like somebody's curtains. I wore it to work on Wednesday. I wore a cream turtleneck and for most of the day I had a light green cardi on too - but then I got hot. The other reason for making it longer - was so that hopefully it would work with my really cute heeled wingtips.
So - honestly - is it a hit or a miss? Honestly. You won't hurt my feelings. Truthfully - the skirt is heavy and I felt 'dumpy' and 'frumpy' all day. JB said it was cute when I was dressed for work, but later he asked what the knitting gals had to say - they said shorten it - about 3". So I'll try that.
Again - I'm asking for honest opinions here - work or no? and if not - why not? Thankee.
I like the skirt, I think it's the pairing that's off. Shorter top that doesn't bunch at your hips and cut your leg line and make the top more "streamlined". You have a full skirt you don't want a "full" top, too. And the shoes that do the same thing at your ankles - longer boots would be cute or dress it up with pumps. The shoes would be cuter with a pencil skirt or slacks.
ReplyDeleteWell, I wouldn't wear a pale pink skirt in November, but our climates are different, and I'm hardly a fashionista. What does KAM say?
ReplyDeleteI'm impressed at the dolls in the windows that your pack hasn't trotted off with or slimed.
I say, if you like it, it's a hit... I like the flowy-ness to it. Personally, I'd prefer a darker color like in the LV photo, but that's just me.
ReplyDeleteI think it's a little too long - 3" shorter might be about right. I think it might need a little less fullness, but overall, it's a good look. And I would wear pale pink in November. Why do we have to wear dark colors in winter, anyway?
ReplyDeleteI can't email you directly, but I'm at ecbryant2002 at yahoo.com if you want to email me.
ReplyDeleteAnd I like the color - pink in the winter is nice.
i like your pink skirt but would prefer that it be showcased differently. I'd wear opaque tights with feet, a flat shoe that doesn't come high on the ankle, (maybe the opaques/shoes in dark brown, with a brown tweed jacket jacket, fitted loosly. No turtleneck, or tightly fitted sweater, IMO. Use longer jewelry (at least 27" chunky necklace or a long scarf and enjoy. I love the pretty soft pink and the style of the skirt and will enjoy seeing it worn with dull green, brown, navy, or garnet. It could be a real focal point in your wardrobe, and congratulations for a job well done.

I would be glad to send my email address to you personally or here, but I don't want it posted on the posts. Is that possible.

ReplyDeleteOMG I love that skirt! Way cute, and that color is totally the color of this year! Excellent work mama!
ReplyDeleteI say pin it up and see how you like it shorter... I think the idea of shortening is good, but I'm not sure it will work in practice. Maybe play with the length a little first. Pink is challenging in the winter, but totally do-able. :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the skirt! I usually cut mine a little shorter too because I have weird body proportions (really short from shoulder to waist, so anything below the knee looks inordinately long. Which is why I haven't actually made one of these skirts yet!) I don't know if I"d go 3" shorter though, maybe 1 inch? I do think the flats idea above is better than ankle high shoes. Flats will lengthen the calf more.
ReplyDeleteI also ditto the shorter top suggestion. Even with a cardi, a more fitted, more skin showing top will balance the proportion of the skirt.
And pink tweed in winter, swoon!!! I myself have both pink and green tweed and was thinking of doing this very same thing. Thanks for the reminder!
Gay - the skirt is okay. It's what it was paired with. A twinset that ends at the top of your hips (high hip area) with a tighter top underneath would look better on top and some boots on the bottom would complete this look.
ReplyDeleteIf you want to wear heels with it then I would go with shortening the skirt and again a fitted top that ended more at your high hip.
Personally I like the pink color in fall/winter. It takes away from the dreariness of the season!
I suggest try wearing it with your new boots and a darker, shorter top and see how it feels. The suggestion to experiment with the skirt length is great.
ReplyDeleteIt is such a pretty fabric and the colour really suits you.
