Food, that is? We have expanded our menu this year. In years past, we have mainly grown lettuce and tomatoes.
This year we have added peas. I hope I get more than just that one flower. I need to go out and play with hubby's camera - because I just love how the little runners looks clinging to the trellis. Carrots. Until now, my soil has been too hard to grow carrots. Since JB built the raised beds - I might actually get some of decent size. It's almost time to plant the next rows - staggering the harvest time.
I wish... I am just too lazy to garden. The first year here in the house I did tomatoes, cucumbers and something else in pots... I miss that. BUT we have a great farm stand that is on my way to A Knitter's Garden where I can get some fantastic products all summer. Reminds me, I have to stop and get some peas on Wed night!
ReplyDeleteMy black thumb usually prevents all gardening. Plants shudder when I walk past them in the nursery. LOL
ReplyDeleteThey are great in salads. I also loved them sauted with a little garlic and dashed with lemon juice.
ReplyDeleteGrowing your own vegetable garden can be so rewarding. I used to grow my own veggies: beans, peppers, tomatoes, greens, squash, etc., A little bit of everything.
ReplyDeletei love the idea of growing my own food but i'm just too lazy. i did plant my very first tomato plant this year. we'll see what happens. really, i should just bury 20 bucks in the ground because i end up neglecting any and all plant life to the point of extinction.
ReplyDeletehope you get lots of tasty treats from your garden this year!
melly~
This year i planted tomatoes, peppers, squash, zuchini, broccoli and herbs. so far, so good!
ReplyDeleteDH is a master gardener and the family cook. I have KP duty. He's growing green beans, peppers, and tomatoes right now. After the Florida heat goes, he'll plant a Fall garden. Because of the floods in the Midwest and expected food price rises, out Fall garden will be larger. That means I'll be out there helping him in the garden and preparing vegetables for the deep freezer. That'll cut down on sewing time, but I need to eat!. I asked him about beet leaves. He didn't think they would taste very good, but he's never tried them. He suggested googling for beet leaf recipes. His favorite sites are Foodtv.com and epicurian.com. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteOh, your carrots look lovely! We have raised beds this year, too, after a long break without a garden. Although summer in my neck of the woods has yet to arrive, I'm hopeful we'll have a great bounty!
