So - I grabbed some yarn, caked it up, and divided it into two. Then I grabbed some double pointed needles - I have quite the collection that rarely gets used - and started knitting away.
I finished the first sock in record time and then finally started the second this past week. As I was knitting along, I noticed that the yarn wasn't patterning in the same way on the second sock - but I just kept knitting along - sometimes I'd
rather be knitting something I know I'll rip - just to have busy hands.
Maybe you can see it better in the second photo? The bottom sock is the first one and it's easily a quarter of an inch bigger than the second. Quarter of an inch! You say - but really that's half an inch because it's doubled and it will make a difference.
So now it's caked back up and I might start them again this week at knitting but I'm currently working on a shawl and a cardigan and I'm in no hurry to get back to them - regardless of how pretty they are.
Boo!! Sorry 'bout that. It is a cute pattern... for what THAT is worth.
ReplyDeleteUm...wow! I did that once...accidentally made the second sock smaller than the first...got all the way to the end before I figured it out. (Navy hides things) Do LOVE your yarn and pattern, though. :-)
ReplyDeleteOh but the socks aren't supposed to be identical now! :) No ripping...
ReplyDeleteThey are pretty. I couldn't ignore the size differential, either.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I usually do sleeves at the same time. I don't knit socks, so don't have that problem. Pretty pattern and nice color on the yarn.
ReplyDeleteBummer! Did you use a different size needle or was it just tension? They are pretty but nothing worse that a loose fitting sock ~ I would have ripped too.
ReplyDeleteLove both the pattern and the yarn but yeh socks def have to be the same size :-) I'd have ripped too.
ReplyDeleteEver since I started 2 at a time/toe up, I've gotten paranoid about second sock syndrom, can't bring myself to do singles at the moment. You knit such pretty items.
Like Chan/Sissy says, Booooo....but they sure are purty. Pattern and yarn make a nice couple.
ReplyDeletepretty pattern! how do you divide a yarn cake?
ReplyDeletei have a partial cake and want to make another pair of socks but don't want to run out on the second sock. can't get any more of this yarn.
I recognize that pattern! :D I've accidentally grabbed one dpn that was a size bigger than the other 3. Took me a while to figure out what was causing the problem and then I just wanted to stab something. LOL
