It is the VETERAN,
not the preacher,
who has given us freedom of religion.
It is the VETERAN,
not the reporter,
who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the VETERAN,
not the poet,
who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the VETERAN,
not the campus organizer,
who has given us freedom to assemble.
It is the VETERAN,
not the lawyer,
who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the VETERAN,

who has give us the right to vote.
It is the VETERAN
who salutes the flag.
It is the VETERAN
who serves under the flag

I received this in an email earlier this weekend and it was too perfect not to share.

Just this past week, I learned of 2 soldiers who lost their lives very recently. One wife had to bury her husband on their anniversary. I know it was a choice and lifestyle they chose but it doesn't make it any easier - for anyone.

I am so very thankful for the men and woman willing to serve in our military and to their parents, spouses and children willing to support them.

  1. I received it also. There was a touching article in my paper yesterday about a soldier who died in Vietnam, and whose family was all dead, yet a kid who was 6 years younger, and knew him growing up in Scranton, hunted up war comrades and finally had a memorial for him. It was perfect for Memorial Day - a perfect way to remind us of the price that must be paid for freedom, and that we owe our thanks for those who do it on our behalf.

  2. Quite moving. I don't think I could have the Knight's funeral on our anniversary...

  3. YES! Let freedom ring from our mountain-tops to our valleys and from coast to coast. Let us NEVER forget the sacrifice of those who came before us, and those who serve now, so we may enjoy the freedoms of our beautiful country!
