Plaid and Floral. Yea or Ney?

So how do you feel about mixing plaid and floral?  Are you a fan?  Or do you think one is enough without the other?

When I cut out the plaid for Ava - I really, really wanted to line her with a brown floral lining.  I was positive I had brown floral lining in the stash - but I didn't - I had brown floral linen.

In answer to the question - I like floral and plaid together.  I just don't think these two fabrics go together as well as I would like.

The dress is BHL's Anna.  I really like this dress, I think it's flattering and very girly.  This version is fully lined and there are no photos of the guts at all.

When I put the dress on for these photos - the zipper broke!  I ripped it out and put in an exposed metal zipper.  it was cold on my back all day!!  Guess I'm gonna have to learn how to do a hand picked zipped.  I'm tired of the failures.

  2. I actually like this combination! Nothing is toooo far out there and a "little clamour" between the pieces is very trendy now! However, I love the top photo of you in your sunshades - very fashion modelly! *smile*

  3. I like this particular combination--I think that the plaid is subtle enough (at least in these photos) that it doesn't clash with the more vibrant floral print.

  4. I really like this combination you have put together. The plaid is subtle and really looks nice with the floral. Two great pieces.

  6. Actually, I do think that floral and plaid work well together, at least in the pictures. Could be different in person, of course, because colors aren't always true. I think you need to go with what makes you happy, and that outfit looks good!

  9. Add me to the list... I like 'em together, at least as they present on my monitor!

I *HATE* an exposed zipper, especially the current trend for a large, shiny zipper as an ... accent? up the back of a very delicate frock. Boo, hiss!

  10. G Marie - blogger extraordinaire! You are so right about the plaid and floral combos. I like them too but they are tough to pull off. You really did a good job in mixing those two, but I have to agree with you. Just something was "off" in the combo. I came back and looked at it again. And this ( in just my silly opinion) is that the plaid jacket needed to have just a bit darker brown to catch the darker brown from the floral. Then - perfection!

Secondly, thank you for the hard work you must put into blogging. I've started two and just never get around to writing., photo etc. Your stuff is great. And so thank you from a long time reader - but not a great commentor.

Finally, hugs to your dogs. They are hopelessly wonderful looking! And that breed is all about warm and wonderful personalities.

have a great 4th of July!

  11. I hate when that happens. I made the Colette Iris shorts recently and the zipper broke the first time I put them on. Such a pain! Love the dress and mixing patterns too!

  12. Ok, I was just contemplating making up a bottom in a blue watch plaid to go with a crazy floral blouse I just made. And I think I'm going to go for it! I really like your plaid and floral combo. Add me to the side that's not a fan of exposed zippers. Hand picked zippers are not to be feared! It's the only way I put in a regular zip. It's either hand picked or an invisible zip. Good luck!
