So we got up, ran some errands and yard saled our way to the local farmer's market. At one of those sales - I spotted a beautiful black singer in a bentwood case before we were even in their yard. It's not the machine I have been looking for, but it was lovely and I brought it home with me. It needs cleaning and a new cord before I'll plug it in. But I'm excited. So - what do you think? Would you have bought her?
Probably not for the machine but for the case. Walked into the Singer store in Leavenworth Kansas in the mid-90's and saw a bentwood case in pristine condition. Told the owner I was buying "that" and went home and got my old Singer to have it installed. Merl, the owner, was laughing when I came back as someone else had walked in right after I left and tried to buy it. He was bemused that anyone would want that old thing. Your machine looks to be older than 1930. Singer has a place on their site teling you how to date a machine based on the letters of the serial number. Enjoy your treasure.

ReplyDeleteYes, in a heartbeat. A friend has a treadle machine that she's used forever. Her grandmother taught her to sew on it and she won't switch.

ReplyDeleteI absolutely would have bought her!! I have a soft spot in my heart for Singers. My Uncle worked for Singer all his working life and collected a beautiful collection of antique machines which he gave to me when he passed on. Yours is a beauty!!

Well, considering I don't sew that much, probably wouldn't have been one of my purchases. ;) However, I do love older models of things, so I can see why it appealed to you.
ReplyDeleteI heard through blogland that your sweet Lucy has crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. I know your heart must be breaking. It is never easy to say goodbye, but it is out of love that we ease our dogs out of this life when they are suffering so that they can run free once again.
