Reading

I have a large sewing project that I'm not in love with but have to get done.  As these things do - it is sucking all the joy from my sewing.  What is it?  I'm making lined curtains for The Musical One's new condo.  They aren't hard, they are just cumbersome and there are alot of steps.  I had set aside Memorial Day weekend to get the 3 panels done - I got one done.

Instead - I've been reading - it's a good distraction technique.  Earlier this year - I ran across True Colors by Kristin Hannah in  the Nook Book Deals - I snapped it up at $2.99.  It's not there anymore.  I finally started it and honestly - I couldn't put it down.  I love the fact that I can have the Nook balanced on my knee and still be knitting while I'm reading.

I fell for the characters in this book.  I was sad to see the story end - I want to know more - what happened to these sisters?  What's next.
Well, next - I logged into Barnes and Noble and bought a copy of the things we do for love.  I started it on Monday morning.  I stayed up way, way too late last night reading it.  In fact, I just curled up in my chair and read last night - no paying attention  to what JB had going on tv, not really listening to him chatter on about the 'talent' on America's Got Talent, just read.
Another good story about family and the things we desire.  How people change.  I laughed and cried as I read this one.
Mind you - I don't do heavy reading.  I don't read about historical events, I don't read true stories.  I read light books that make you feel connected to the characters.  That take you away from your own live for a minute.  Kristin Hannah can do that for me.  Since she's no longer on the Nook Book Deals - I think I'm going to have to figure out how the Nook and my library work together.  Anyone?
So what do you read and why?

  1. I read what you send to me, by Nook lend me or by USPS. ;)

Seriously though, you're the reason I read cozies. Before your influence, I reached for biographies and historical fiction most often. I still enjoy those too, but now I mix in some light reading too.

  2. I'm still on the fence about an Ereader, but I am really thinking about getting a Kindle once Zoe is born.

  3. I have been scouring amazon and other places for free ebooks. I've come across quite a few that range from decent to quite good. I read mysteries, historical fiction. Right now I'm in the middle of "Why We Raise Belgian Horses." It's written as if someone, say your granny, is telling you about her grandfather's life in the Dakota territory in the 1880s, and is really quite sweet.

I think you have to go to the library to sign up for their lending library initially, but I'm really not sure. I was thinking of taking my Kindle down and figuring out how it works.Joining Amazon Prime to get their lending library is a joke to me, since you can borrow "Up to One Book A Month!" Fie! I can read up to One Book A Day (at least on weekends, if I'm not sewing)!

Now I'm going to look up this author and see if she has any deals for the Kindle!

  4. Well, I cannot take reading much fiction anymore. I think I get too much emotion and angst in real life in my job as an Intensive care baby nurse. Too much heartache...
So I like escape reading. Just magazines and how to.
I used to read like a fiend:
    Some favorites
CROSSING TO SAFETY by Wallace Stegner
    A PACK OF TWO
THe BEAN TREES and that whole series
Daughter has a Nook. I have a NOOKA, a watch..

Make those curtains.....they will be so appreciated. there is NOTHING like someone who can sew for your new windows!

  5. I'll have to check out Kristin Hannah. I'm finishing Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins (book three of the Hunger Games trilogy). I have a couple books out from the library...the Dressmaker and a book about the Titanic. I chuckled about the Nook on your knees so you could read while you knit. That's the ultimate in multi tasking!

  6. I discovered Kristin Hannah a couple years ago and rad everything I could find of hers. There are a couple other authors who write in a similar style that I liked too.

I appreciate you coming to see me. It may take me a bit to publish your comment - but I will get to them by the end of every day. If you leave a way for me to get back to you, I will. Thanks for taking the time to comment and share your opinions. g
