Decisions
Remember this fabric? Well Carolyn suggested and sheath dress and I couldn't get the idea out of mind. (by the way, when you click on her name, scroll down and read her post on snoop shopping - you won't be sorry.)
So, I did some online shopping and bought the brown background fabric and some coordinating print to make a dress.
Then, I had to find a dress pattern. I'm not a huge fan of the traditional sheath dress. I'm very pear shaped and I don't really like wearing something that hangs straight from my hips. I tend to like dresses with full skirts, which isn't necessarily the best look either.
So, I've settled on B5333 the dress is sheath like, but has an a-line skirt rather than a full skirt. It has a midriff panel which is great place to add embellishment (or not). So far, I've cut it out in muslin. The fabrics are all prewashed and ready to go. Now I just have to sew the muslin this week so I can get the fashion fabric cut before retreat weekend. Or else get the expert help I'll need to make it fit while at retreat. That is the goal. So watch for a finished dress, very, very soon.

I don't know that much about sewing, G; but if you didn't want a dress per se, you could make the "B" and "D" using the border print for the skirt and the coordinating brown print for the top.....just a thought. It would give you a good vertical line (very figure flattering) without doing the 'dress' thing if you wanted a skirt. I'm not sure I understand where the green print ties in. ?Piping? ?jacket?
ReplyDeleteSounds like it will turn out well... I like the way it looks next to the other print you chose, but I'm not sure about this possible embellishment you speak of... hmmmm, I just can't picture what you would put there... Excited to see how it turns out :)
ReplyDeleteHow much of the border print do you have. Is there enough for a tote to go along with the dress? You'd only really need it on one side.
ReplyDeleteThe technical drawings don't show the skirt as an A-line, although that's an easy change to make. Cute pattern.
ReplyDeleteAs you well know, about all I can do is tell you the fabrics sure are pretty...
ReplyDeleteOkay...I can see the entire dress with the embellishment and am very, very excited about this dress! You are right, the skirt in an a-line will work perfectly with your figure. So if you can get help at the retreat to work out any fitting issues - this should be a stunner!!!
