First Wool Dress

This is what I wore my first day in the new office.   I'm not positive the cardigan works with it and I probably should have grabbed a belt to emphasize my waist - because I do actually have one.

I felt much butter wearing this than I feel looking at these pictures.  But enough about that.   Not sure if you can tell, but I did actually fix my hair and put make up on and JB took these pictures before I went to work because I didn't have to be there until 10.

Enough about that.  You wanna hear about the dress, right?  Well this was a piece of red wool that I bought at the Pendelton booth during Expo 2011.  It was very lightweight and there was only 2 yards.  I paid $20 for the length of wool.

The pattern is Simplicity 2648 - the same pattern I used for the interview Suit Dress.

I worked with a friend to get the fit down.  So this time, I just cut and sewed and held my breath a bit because - well it's wool and I have slobbery dogs.

I can see some drag lines in the photos that I don't notice in real life, so I'm not sure what's up there.  I need to find some more wool in spring colors and make up a few more dresses with different necklines and short sleeves.

I fully lined the dress and included the walking pleat, although I don't need it to walk in this dress.

I pressed while sewing and before wearing so I'm not sure what the puckers at the neckline are all about.

That's about all I have to say about this dress.  If I look at these pictures too much more I will never wear it again.

Happy Mid - Week everyone.

  2. You are much too critical of yourself. Enjoy that you look good wearing something that you created with your own hands. You're a tremendously creative woman and you should feel proud.

  3. The you and the dress are beautiful! Fabric is fluid - unless you're wearing lycra - so I'm not sure what all this drag lines and puckers talk is about. You look GREAT in that color and that dress!

  9. The dress looks great. Have a good look at it on and see if those pulls show up. I have found that the flash accentuates some things and casts shadows so it could be only the slightest of curve.

I think it looks great with the cardi - maybe a jacket would look good.

  10. Okay you know I love JB but he doesn't always take the most flattering pictures. I'm sure if my daughter or I took them, you would get a different result. That being said, the reason you felt amazing in the dress is because you look AWESOME in the dress! I love the cardigan with it and next time you can wear the belt. You DEFINITELY should make more of these. Mood has some pretty ltwt wool crepes in pretty spring colors...or try FM if the other is to pricey. Definitely vary the necklines and sleeves and you will have a work wardrobe before you know it!

  11. I think the dress suits you beautifully. I think because it is a classic tailored dress, a jacket would look great with it.

  18. This dress looks fantastic!!! I agree that the belt would have helped with the cardi on, but without the cardi, it is really good!! You look Professional, and polished!

Where did you get the pumps? I may need a pair for my new professional wardrobe...

Your hair looks good too, it is getting long!
