What To Do, what to do?

I just cleaned up the cutting table in the studio. I had to move it so we could have the new windows installed next week. Anyway - I went through every bucket and bin down there - I have some yarns to give away. Some is good stuff that came back from England when The Princess was 2 - but I'll save that for another post.
I also have lots of old crafty stuff that I have no desire to ever finish, but don't really want to get rid of. For a period of three years, some 7-10 years ago I worked for a Viking Dealer and taught lots of classes. For example: I have the materials to make 3 different heirloom quilts - I don't like quilting and definitely don't want to finish them, but as I was looking at everything all lumped together in the bin - I was really admiring it. There is ribbon, lace, appliques, batiste - I was just going to put it into the goodwill box - but then I looked and thought well I could finish it. Seriously? But what do I do with all the stuff? I went through a quilting (or better yet a piecing phase) I have an entire block of the month kit that I paid a fortune for but have absolutely no desire to make - Anyone interested in purchasing it? email me.
So my question is - what do you do with the stuff you have that you no longer have any desire to make? Sell? Give Away? Donate? help - I'm suffocating in guilt.

  1. Hang onto the trims, you can always find a use for them on some garment or craft item.

  3. Mostly give it away. Sometimes I toss but mostly give away. If no one really wants it and I can't bear to toss, I give it to the local shelter for their thrift store. Good luck--it's always good therapy for me to be able to get rid of things that I no longer HAVE TO HAVE!

  4. I normally give it away, too. What can I say...I have a secret love affair with the black trash bag. I love getting rid of stuff and having more room. (The hubby calls it the "black trash bag of DOOM, btw. LOL)

  5. Get it out of the house if it makes you feel guilty. I'm working on more of the same here.

  6. I try to give fabrics I don't love to someone who does. If that fails, I leave it in the Goodwill box. I never sell my old stuff; I just don't find it worth the hassle for a few dollars. Just my 2 cents worth.

My verification word is "nonate". Is it trying to tell us something?

  7. I try to give it away if I can. I tried selling stuff like that on ebay, and every bit of it sold. BUT...I ended up losing money paying shipping for each package. I didn't figure my shipping costs correctly. I didn't come out in the hole, but I only came out about even in the end so it was just a waste of time!!

  8. I donated fabric and patterns that weren't worth selling (and some that was worth selling) to the local high school. They were extremely grateful.

  9. My grandmother belongs to the same church she has been a member of since before I was born. They have a group of ladies who quilt. Each year they piece the top and spend the entire year getting together to quilt the thing, then it goes into a raffle at the church fall festival. It always brings in big bucks as everyone wants one of these. If you decide to donate scraps you could check around and see if you can find a group like this. I like the high school idea too and I know there are groups out there that sew for charity who would appreciate you.

  10. Can I have some of the yarn from England? I bet it's super cool! :)
At my knitting group this morning I asked if having 3 bins of yarn stashed in my room was crazy, and everyone agreed that it wasn't anything compared to the stash they have...
I've seen all the bins you have down there! That must've been a very big project sorting through all of it! I bet you feel very accomplished!

I appreciate you coming to see me. It may take me a bit to publish your comment - but I will get to them by the end of every day. If you leave a way for me to get back to you, I will. Thanks for taking the time to comment and share your opinions. g
