I've Never Been an Earthy Girl

Earthy colors, yes. But working in the earth - no.
However, this year having a garden and growing food I'm just loving hanging out in the yard. I love the fact that I'm able to harvest food - right from my own yard.
These peas, for instance - when I saw the first one on the vine - I squealed. Really. Now, I just snap one off every couple of days when I walk by and eat the yummy little gem.
I'm really enjoying this. I can't wait for new foods to be ready. We have planted our second go round of both radishes and spinach. I fixed the last of the first spinach in a ham frittata last night and it was yummy. We eat lettuce from the yard most every night and soon we will have corn, squash, carrots, and beets - it's all good.

  1. I could not get any enthusiasm from anyone here for a garden, and I'll be d**ed if I'm going to do all the work! So we only have our perrenials: apple trees in plentitude, 1 each peach and plum which are pitiful providers, mulberry tree and grape vines. I'm so looking forward to the grapes! And I envy you your fresh salads!

  3. I was a tele-witness to the pea-squealing. You. Are. So. Cute. But then again, I have a SIL who was *aghast* to discover that the dried soybeans she's so fond of were grown. in. the. dirt. (my brother picked him a good'un, no?)Thought of you muchly tonight, the party was swell, and the knitting chicas all sat out and smoked clove cigs and swilled drinkies from bottles, and no children got swallowed up in the weeds. Will have to try again later. C

  6. We get very, very little sunlight where we live, but this year I decided to try just a few plants: one cherry tomato, one green pepper and a cucumber. They're on the side of the house that gets the most sun... about 4-5 hours a day.
And it's working! We have baby tomatoes! We have baby cucumbers! We don't have baby green peppers yet, but I'm still hoping.
And yes, I probably did squeal the first time... and I still make DH look at and admire the cucumbers. Every day!
