Guard Dog (NOT!)

So in the dog yard, there is a pile of dirt. It was deliberately left there after the replacement of our septic system a couple of years ago. Beau loves it. He digs in the hill, they all play king of the mountain on that dirt hill, and his most favorite thing to do - stand on the hill and watch the neighbors. When we bought our house 7 years ago - we didn't have a dog yard in the back - but then we only had 2 dogs then. They lived in the upper back yard - the part that now houses the pond, and Hank the Heron. That yard has a picket fence to keep the dogs in. The back where there are now houses - was woods. Anyway - now that there are houses - Beau likes to stand around and watch them, then bark, then he goes to the fence, jumps on it and then hangs 10 until he can't see them anymore, at which point he hops down and starts over. The silliest part of all - that fence is only 5' tall. He could be over it in a heart beat. He just doesn't know how is back feet work - thankfully! Happy Dogs on Thursday everyone.

  1. We have a dog yard, too! In no small part, this is because Thor will just wander off to visit and get lost if the main gate to the house is left open for some reason. He barks ferociously at walking passers-by, then goes to take a nap. The big boys are so silly, aren't they?

  4. do you mean five inches or five feet tall? My son's roomates dog loves climbing the gates but somehow can never get over the top?

  5. Um, Gaylen... this 'dogs on Thursday' business has to be curtailed, as it appears to have an unfortunate side-effect. I came home tonight to an auxillary dog on my back porch. She's at least part (if not all) pointer, white with black ears, freckles, and spots on her right bum cheek and flank. What do I do? She won't say what her name is, and there isn't a collar on her. Both counties (Morgan and Johnson) shelters are over-full die to the flooding. I expect she just washed up here, or was dumped. I just don't want her biting the kids' faces off, though she seems good natured (except where chow is concerned). Bill is going to flip his frack out... dogs on Thursday, indeed. Ack!

  6. uh, that was supposed to be 'due to flooding', not 'die'. Oops. C

  7. I love it! Beau is a funny boy... Sissy is WELL aware of her reach, her leaping ability, etc., but such athletic pursuits never entered sweet Hooey's mind.

  8. Oh man, my dog (a poodle/golden retriever mix) would be over that fence in a heartbeat! She regularly leaps over the back of our couch in our living room. :)
